| Rezwan Razani I spent about 10 years of my childhood In Iran, but I was enrolled in an international school and had only 1 hour of Persian a day. I don't think I was expected to learn Persian, as my mother is American. English is my mother tongue. Once we moved to the States after the revolution, I figured it was OK to not worry about Persian. I took a Persian class in high school to fulfill language resuirements, and I practiced a bit when my grand ma visited us, but that was it. Then my sister married an all-Iranian, Iranian-American guy and had kids. And she, being worried that her heritage language may get lost, was not going to take it lying down. Look, xAle Rezi, you are going to have to speak Persian to your nephews and read them cool Persian stories, and while you are at it, could you write a few? This was the beginning my journey, my struggle and pleasure to learn farsi, and word magnet encapsulates it all. Word magnets break down language to exactly the level you need for getting back in touch with it. The level of the word! You can hold a word in your hand and physically develop your relationship to the word. You would not have to run to a dictionary every two seconds because the translation will be on the back in English! Best of all, magnets are fun. You PLAY with word magnets, so you won't even think you're LEARNING something. You can sit around with friends and family and bond with your language and culture in your spare time! It was win-win! At present, we have three different kits: Standard (motedAvel); Courtship (khastegari), Pleasantries (T'Arof). |
